Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke has sent one of the Save the Turf Foundation members an update. Good news – he reassures us that the DOT has agreed to not disturb the portions of The Turf that are underground. This buys us time to raise money toward unearthing our legendary skatepark. The Mayor’s email read as follows:
“I don’t know what will happen, or if there is momentum and resources. At this point, I’m just trying to keep on eye on the subterranean structure so it doesn’t disappear before a decision or an opportunity materializes. I was reassured Tuesday that the “stuff” is still there. You should know that I have almost nothing to say about what the DOT does on that property, but that they have been cooperative and are abiding by their commitment not to destroy what’s left there.
I continue to investigate other options, like commercial support or incorporation into a development (which would contribute to sustainability).
At this point, the bowls are there safe and sound — per the State. All I can do is explore options on my side, and hope that the collective efforts out there help.
